Alice about Brittany: “At first I was taken by surprise by her openness and willingness to share rather personal information, but I was very appreciative of that, and felt a strangely beautiful and intimate bond shared by the fact that we were both loving sisters with similar aspirations. As it turns out, we both aspire to serve in the Peace Corps after graduation.”
Kess about Bryan: "Bryan was also very interested to hear about my backstory. He asked a lot of perceptive question about my past to show that he was listening and genuinely interested in what I had to say. I could gather from this hour of talking to him that he is a very intelligent person with a lot of insight and knowledge that he is not afraid to share when asked."
Jeannie about Caroline: “In addition to environmental science, Caroline also loves art. She is a very mellow individual, one that appreciates art and anything that is aesthetically pleasing surrounding her.”
Vanessa about Maria: “I really admire Maria’s spirit and passion for human rights and social justice issues. I am inspired by her gusto and enthusiasm for all things moral and just.”
Andrew about Elina: “Elina is a special girl, a person that I want to be friends with for a long time. Not many college kids can think as big as she does and certainly fewer have the heart that she does.”
Mohammad about Ben: “We both like country music. I really like Sam Hunt and so does he. Along with this Ben gave me awesome song recommendations such as Tennessee Whiskey. He also likes trap music which I like as well. I gave him some song recommendations as well.”
Maria about Vanessa “Vanessa hopes to be a therapist one day. I honestly think she'd love it! She's very compassionate. She's a great listener. She seems very kind and open minded. I think she has the qualities of an effective future therapist in any field that she goes into.”
Beatriz about Alex: “We (also) have a common love for Chipotle. Even though we know that it is not actually Mexican food, we love it despite of all the E.Coli outbreaks that have been going on for the past years. As a matter of fact, as soon as they announced the outbreak last year, we went to Chipotle the same week to get dinner. That is when you know we are true fans. Therefore, I really do appreciate my friendship with Alex.”
Wubetu about Alexander: “Alex is not only a roommate but also a great friend. He is very mature, respectful, and responsible person. But most importantly, I love his honesty and positivity.”
Clara about Maria: “We both agreed that it is an amazing experience living together with people from so very different backgrounds, and learn about different cultures and experiences everyday by just making small talk.”
Alex about Beatriz: “I think our personalities complement each other, and throughout our talk she even put up with my terrible jokes….I decided to try out the same exact burrito that she ordered when we made it to Chipotle. Her order seemed strange, but I trusted in her because of the Chipotle connoisseur I learned she was. It was delicious.”
Ben about Mohammad: “Mohammed was very fun to talk to because he heard out even my most ridiculous conspiracies, but then would also answer back with well thought out questions that would either poke holes in my theories or add new layers to them.”
Raven about Rav: “When I asked Rav how she manages to keep everything together, she said, "Every time I know what my parents have done for me… Wake reminds me of this every second, and it’s a good constant reminder to keep working hard.”
Rav about Raven: “She doesn’t take other people’s advice or words lightly, instead turns them over in her head and evaluates them after they have occurred. She is not only observant but also pays very strong attention to detail. She said she doesn’t like to “waste words” which includes other people’s words but also what she is saying to others.”
Guillermo about Kess: “He is still trying to decide what he wants to do, but his academic passions lie in the field of science….”
Hannah about Genereux: “Genereux is kind, and not only kind but truly selfless. By the way that he conversed, he was just as good of a listener as he was a speaker…I truly think his kindness and intelligence will take him farther than he is aware and that his drive will help him to realize his aspiration.”
Taylor about Genereux: “His favorite holiday is New Years in part for the new beginning, and in part because it is the time in which gets to see his larger family.”
Brittany about Alice “She loves giving back to the community and doing volunteer work. She is a shift leader for Campus Kitchen here at Wake Forest, and she hopes to continue this non-profit type of work after graduation.”
Maria about Clara: “She said that her sophomore year has been very positive so far because she is more focused on doing her own thing and worrying less about what others think of her. She is a very genuine, caring person and I’m glad we are both a part of Global Village.”
Alexander about Wubetu: “Our actions reflect back onto all those who have invested in us and how we can make a major difference in the lives of others with how we interact with them. He explained that it is with this in mind that he is intentionally and mindfully happy at all hours of the day—even if it does make me wanna kill him at 2am.”
Habby about Jeannie: "She loves to help people and make people happy and that’s why she wants much of her attorney work to be pro bono. While she admits she helps people often at her own expense, it’s an important aspect of her identity. This is also why she aspires to be the 1st female president, helping to inspire young women and make real change in the U.S. and around the world."
Caroline about Jeannie “Jeannie said that she spent some time on her own (while abroad), spontaneously walking into art exhibits and just exploring Italy in a way that Wake students don’t typically do when they’re abroad. It inspired me to think more about the comfort and discovery that comes from putting yourself in uncomfortable or atypical situations.”
Bryan about Guillermo: “His ability to understand different types of people has changed immensely, but even on his day to day interactions he aims to keep his Hispanic nature and personality. His goal of immersing himself in the culture was to get to know it, not to become part of it or have it change him into something he is not.”
Genereux about Hannah: “Hannah played, and was very good at it, field hockey, but she stopped because she doesn’t think she would have the same experience here as she did in high school. it is something that she still likes, and hope she can find the joy of playing again.” Taylor about Hannah: “Hannah is genuine, and never seems to take even the smallest kindness for granted. One day I let her use my curling iron and the next day I found a note on the mirror thanking me profusely.”
Genereux about Taylor: Taylor family just bought a new farm, and they are finishing up their house. This was also funny because I kind of teased her by calling her a farm girl and we kind of just laughed about it. She was like “no no no no, I am a city gal 100%.”
Hannah about Taylor: “I now know about the person she hopes to be. Even though she is not entirely sure about a direction that will lead to her desired professions of a physician’s assistant and a forensic anthropologist, I have so much confidence that she will find a pathway through the connections she has made.”
Elina about Andrew: “We focused the most on perspective and understanding another person. Part of why I truly enjoyed talking with Andrew so much was that he genuinely practiced what he was preaching. I felt comfortable talking to him about certain topics I normally don’t bring up.”
